As your midwife, Sarah will do nutritional and herbal counseling, routine urine screening, all lab work required by the state of Texas and any additional labs requested by the client. She will assess the mother’s blood pressure and weight gain at every prenatal visit to ensure a healthy pregnancy. She will also work with clients to develop a detailed insight into family health history in order to be as familiar with her clients as possible. She will continually check the baby’s position, check the baby’s heart rate, and monitor growth at each prenatal visit. Sonograms are available if needed or upon a client’s request. Leading up to the actual delivery, Sarah spends the majority of her time educating families about their health and nutrition and what to expect when the baby finally arrives!
Pregnancy is an important time for both mom and baby. It is amazing how many complications can be prevented if a woman takes the time to invest in a healthy diet and lifestyle. She will usually spend about a half hour to an hour with you at each prenatal visit to ensure all your needs are being met. Sarah’s clients can reach her by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, if they have any concerns or questions.
Midwives are only allowed to provide care for women who have a normal pregnancy. They are required by law to consult with a physician if health issues start to expand beyond their scope of practice. Sarah does have physician back-up if a referral becomes necessary.
Sarah invests so much time into her clients, making them feel taken care of and fully supported. Sarah will also explain in detail the whole process of birth including teaching women about comfort measures and various labor positions.
All prenatal care will be given at Gentle Beginnings Birth Center in Hurst, Texas. Home prenatal care is also available upon request for those living in the Dallas/Forth Worth metroplex.
