Sarah provides support as a labor doula, as well as a postpartum doula at any local hospital in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. A doula is a woman who gives continuous physical, emotional and informational support during labor and childbirth and helps make adjustments if unexpected demands or complications arise anytime during the labor or birth. As a doula, Sarah supports the family by explaining various hospital procedures and how to maintain good progress throughout labor by assisting mothers in using various labor positions, massage, visualization, and hydrotherapy. As a doula she not only supports the pregnant woman, but Sarah also supports their partners and families through the emotional and physical issues of childbirth. The Greek definition is “trusted servant” or “woman’s servant.”
Hiring a doula has been found to lower the C-section rate for women giving birth in a medical setting. It is also very difficult, with today’s technology, to have a non-medicated birth in a hospital. In order to protect your wishes as a mother, it is important to discuss with your care provider your strong desire to have a natural birth and incorporate a doula into your birth plan.
Sarah will help you develop and implement a birth plan, provide comfort and support during the birth, facilitate communication with medical staff and stay with you throughout your labor. She also provides postpartum home-care and breast-feeding support after the birth to teach you how to care for your newborn baby and help you adjust to your new lives together.
Doula clients can have their initial consultation at Grapevine Birthing Center in Grapevine ,Texas or Sarah can meet you at your home if you are located in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.
